Amanda Brugel

(February 27th of 2010 to Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on that part of the island of Montreal known as"the West Island. It is the West Island, to those not familiar with it, is a large part that stretches from Lachine all the way west. Amanda Brugel grew up on the island and is commonly called her birthplace. But she only resided there for a very short time. Brugel grew up in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. In her early years she hoped to become the next big thing in her career, but a sudden increase in her height made it difficult. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inches." When I grew out of my male counterparts, I gave up. Numerous former dancers choose to become actors. For Brugel it was the guidance of her drama teacher at her high school which pushed her to the path she required. The teacher encouraged her to try out for roles in a school production. She auditioned and was cast as Anne of Green Gables. It led to her receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts at York University. Brugel's career spans over twenty years, and she's appeared in 60 different productions that have screened on large screens and smaller ones. Her most recognizable role was as Rita (pictured beneath) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel appeared only on rare occasions in the first season of the series The Handmaid's tale. She was the only Canadian actor.
